Changing ISP
If you change ISP your IP address will change. There are all sorts of
places that your IP address is embedded and that will need to be
changed. The following is a list of files that I have had to edit.
It is correct for Gentoo Linux; other distributions may keep the
data in slightly different places.
- /etc/bind/named.conf:
Check your recursion-allow and allow-transfers
blocks. Reverse DNS will certainly have to change.
Your ISP may delegate it to
you in which case
you will be
responsible for hosting it yourself.
Alternatively, your ISP may look after it for you.
- Domain files.
- /etc/resolv.conf:
Holds the addresses of your name servers.
- /etc/hosts, /etc/networks
- /etc/conf.d/net:
Holds your ifconfig and route data.
- /etc/hosts.{lpd,allow,deny}:
Hold various permissions.
- /etc/exports
- /etc/fstab
- iptables configuration:
The address of your local networks may have changed and you will
need to change network permissions.
- /etc/inetd.conf or /etc/xinetd.{d,conf}
- DNS Registries.
You will have to notify the registrars of your domains where the new
name servers are.
